TOEICパート2のトリッキーな返答まとめ【TOEICらしさ】

では早速本題に入ります。
TOEICのパート2はある質問・呟きに対して、最も適切な返答を三択の中から選ぶ問題です。
例えば
「会議は何時に始まりますか？」
(What time does the meeting start?)
に対して
「2時半だと思います。」
(Two-thirty, I think.)
などの適切だと思われる選択肢を選びます。
しかし、この質問に対して
「Lynnさんに確認してください。」
(Please check with Lynn.)
という返しを選ばせるのが”TOEICらしさ”です。
このような少しトリッキーな返答は、知らずに対処するのは少し難しいですが、知っていると逆に正答しやすいラッキー問題です。
そこで、このような少しトリッキーな返答をまとめました。良ければご活用ください。
未定・未確認系
Who's taking over Mr. Portman's position?
①It'll be announced tomorrow.
まだ決まっていない系
Who's going to be our new manager?
①Nobody knows yet.
②It hasn't been announced [decided] yet.
③Ask the chief.
④I have no idea.
このように未定・未確認系ならどれでも正解になりうる。
Where can I find information about the conference?
①Check this brochure.
②Should I call the organizer?
③Oh, will you be attending?
一つの質もに対して、あらゆる返答が予想できるので、どれが来ても答えられるようにしたい。
ここまで見て分かる通りWhere, Who, Whenなどに対して、「まだ決まっていない/明日発表される」や「チーフに確認してみます/部長にメールで聞きましょうか？」などのパターンがあり、これらはTOEICでは非常に頻出の返答である。
質問返し系
Are you coming to the company picnic?
①Yes, should I bring anything?
②Is everyone else going?
詳細を尋ね返す系。
Do you have extra copies of the minutes?
①Yes, how many do you need?
②Should I make some more?
様々な詳細の聞き返しが考えられる。 minuteは可算名詞で「議事録」などの意味で登場する。
Do you sell batteries?
①What type are you loking for?
When should we finalize the marketing plan?
①How long will it take to finish?
Why were you in Toronto?
①How did you know I went there?
質問の理由や前提を問い返す系もよく見ます。
Are you going to Rome for your vacation?
①You've been there before, haven't you?
「そういえば、あなたも○○でしたね」と質問から何かを思い出し、確認する系。
二択系
Is Mr.Wang still on vacation or is he sick?
①I just saw him at the coffee machine.
orの二択に対して、「両方です」や「どちらでもありません」は定番。whicheverやeitherに注意。「It's up to you.」など、判断を他人に任せる選択肢も考えられる。
Would you rather eat outside or in the dining room?
①Either is fine.
②It depends on the weather.
このように「～次第です」という返答も考えられる。
その他
There are enough brochures for the clients, aren't there?
①I'll go get some more just in case.
brochureは頻出単語。
The workshop was infomative, wasn't it?
①Actually, I wasn't able to attend.
②Did you enjoy it?
「○○はどうでしたか？」などに対して「実は行けなかったんですよ」などの前提を崩す返答も頻出。
Who's in charge of ordering office supplies?
①We take turns.
Where will you be staying in New York?
①With my aunt.
Whereに対しwithで答えるなど、様々なパターンが考えられる。
